The commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export pipeline played an invaluable role in he strengthening of the transport sector of Azerbaijan,
Transportation by pipeline rose 3.5% in the total amount of transportation and made up 17.9% (including 4.1% by Р'РўРЎ). 57.8% of entire cargo deliveries fell on private sector.
Cargo deliveries by all types of transport conveyances reached the record and made up 32.7 million tons, 53.9% more than 2005.
The aggregate amount of passenger transportation grew 5.9% as compared to 2005 and made up 875.4mln men. In this period 84.4% of passengers used automobile transport. The share of automobile transport in the passenger transportation made up 84.5%, while the share of metro was 14.8%.
Over 10 months of 2006 the volume of cargo deliveries comprised 60.0mln tons of cargo, or 6.6% more than 2005. The amount of passenger transportation made up 739.4mln (rose 5.5%). In turns the cargo turnover rose 8.9%, while passenger transportation 7.8%.
Thus, in the first 10 months of 2006 the Azerbaijan State Railway Department (ASRD) transported 25mln tons of cargo, or 17.2% more than last year. The cargo turnover rose 18.9%.
The cargo shipping comprised 11.7 million tons with a rise of 5.1% as compared to 2005. The two third of cargo deliveries fell on oil and oil products, while 29.4% was dry cargo. 99.7% of cargo deliveries was implemented under the international operations. The passenger transportation rose 9.2% as compared to last year, while goods turnover increased 15.9% and made up 7bln ton per km.
In January to October the volume of cargo processed at the ports of Azerbaijan made up 5.1mln tons, or 13.5% more than last year. 83.6% of the entire cargo fell on transit cargo, which increased 11.5% more than last year. The amount of import cargo rose 2.2% and export cargo 40%.
In this period oil transportation via oil pipelines rose 2.4% as compared to 2005 and comprised 9.1 million tons. It was possible as a result of commissioning of the BTC and large-scale oil production. Transportation via gas mains made up 7.6bln cu m with 43.4% of import gas

It was possible as a result of commissioning of the BTC and large-scale oil production, which carried out 4.8mln tons of oil. Transportation via gas mains made up 8.5bln cu m with 43% of import gas.
Passengers transportation via airways grew 9.2% and made up 1.1mln people, including 5.8% implemented by private sector.
Metro remains to be the popular and profitable. Over the first 10 months a total of 129.9mln passengers traveled by metro, or 8.4% more as compared to last year.
In January to October 35.9mln tons of cargo has been transported via the Eurasian corridor, which exceeded the last year figure by 7.2% and comprised 35.4% of entire cargo deliveries to the country.
