Russian arms sold to Azerbaijan to not upset power balance

Purchases of arms and military equipment by Azerbaijan are not in general assessed as being problematic, and the corresponding services of Armenia are aware of them since the moment of contracting, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Artsrun Hovannisian wrote on his page on Facebook social network, Armenianreport reported.

On the eve, the media reported on the supply of a parcel of Russian weapons and military equipment to Azerbaijan, which caused a strong reaction in Armenia.

He added that the Ministry of Defense of Armenia will refrain from any statements and position expression, considering certain elements of misinformation on the news feeds.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the occupied territories.
