Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg arrived in Tbilisi last night. Hammarberg intends to secure the release of two Georgian teenagers in Tskhinvali.

"I will not give up and will achieve the liberation of these teenagers because I think that innocent people should not suffer due to political tensions," he added

Hammarberg was in Moscow where he held meetings in the Foreign Ministry. They also expressed the hope that innocent people will not be imprisoned due to political problems

Hammarberg acted as a mediator and exchanged two Georgian teenagers for five South Ossetians in early December who had been held on the Georgian side. The South Ossetian authorities promised Hammarberg to release the remaining two Georgian teenagers Dec. 13

However, 17-year-old Levan Hmiadashvili and 16-year-old Victor Buchukuri remain in custody, despite this promise

George Archvadze has also remained in custody in Tskhinvali. According to his family, South Ossetians detained him July 5, but few people knew about his arrest until recently.
