Strike at metallurgical plant in Georgia may grow

Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept.3/ Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /

Warning strike of workers of Kutaisi metallurgical plant "Hercules" in Georgia, followed by dismissal of six employees, ended without results.

For this reason workers are planning a large-scale strike next week.

Workers of the "Hercules" plant, owned by the Georgian-Indian company "EurAsia Steel", went on strike on Friday. This was followed by the leadership's dismissal threat.

The plant's strike committee notified the leadership and personally "EurAsia Steel" company chairman Paat Chkhenkeli, as well as Health Minister Andria Urushadze and Georgian Public Defender Giorgi Tugushi about the strike in a written form.

According to one of the directors of the enterprise Robert Tomaradze, the dismissed workers can get their jobs back only through the courts, which must decide whether these employees were dismissed illegally.
