The Deputy Prime Minister of Georgia and State Minister for Reintegration Eka Tkeshelashvili during a working visit to the United States is holding meetings with representatives of both houses of Congress. The main theme focuses on the preparation for the NATO summit in Chicago.

Tkeshelashvili also participated at a meeting organised by the U.S. Centre for Strategic Studies in Washington.

"At the summit, Georgia will be represented in the status of the country's NATO postgraduate country as a future member of this organisation and not just as a partner.

We move to the next stage of cooperation," Tkeshelashvili said.

She stressed that there is no need for Georgia to submit the Candidate Action Plan for NATO membership at the Chicago summit as the current format of the annual plan and the Georgia-NATO commission is a 'sufficient mechanism' for joining the alliance.

Attending the meeting, Georgian Ambassador to the U.S., Temur Yakobashvili is confident that a progress made by the country on the path of integration into the Alliance will be recorded at the NATO summit.

"We would like to not only see our progress was recorded, but that Georgia was involved in two different formats - at the level of the heads of state and foreign ministers' meeting in the format of postgraduate countries," Yakobashvili said.
