Georgian President thanked the OSCE PA delegation led by its chairman Ricardo Millori for advising on the forthcoming elections. Saakashvili thanked the OSCE PA delegation at the final meeting on the results of its visit, presidential spokeswoman Manana Manjgaladze stated at a special briefing.

"The President of Georgia himself initiated the invitation of the OSCE long term monitoring group and thanked the guests during the meeting with the delegation. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding," the spokeswoman said.

She added that the meeting noted both the achievements that have been made in recent years in ensuring the transparency of the elections, equal opportunities and the problems.

"The ways to solve these problems were defined at the meeting. I can assure you that the President of Georgia respects all members of the delegation and appreciates their opinion. In general, co-operation with the OSCE in promoting the parliamentary elections in Georgia is very significant," Manjgaladze stressed.

The briefing was held after the Minister of Culture Nika Rurua described the statements of the OSCE delegation members about the signs of Leninism in the pre-election period as "stupidity." He later retracted his statement, saying that journalists misinformed him about statements of OSCE PA President Ricardo Millori.

The parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held on October 1.
