The author of a scandalous video on tortures of prisoners at Gldan Prison N8, the former duty officer Vladimir Bedukadze, is wanted by Interpol.
Bedukadze's photos and his personal data are published on Interpol's website. He is wanted due to an accusation of endangering the life of prisoners.
Bedukadze, who is currently in Brussels, has several times held press conferences and appealed to the government of Belgium with a request for political asylum.
According to the Georgian Prosecutor's office, Bedukadze has received two million dollars for publishing scandalous records. This accusation is denied by Bedukadze.
Protest marches occurred around Georgia within several days of the video being shown by opposition channels.
Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Bachana Akhalaya, who served as the department chief on penal execution at Georgian Ministry of Justice, resigned due to the scandal.
Previously, Georgian PM Vano Merabishvili accepted the resignation of the Minister on Penalty Execution, Probation and Juridical Support, Khatuna Kalmakhelidze.
