The status of Bagrati cathedral in Kutaisi will be changed in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This was said to the Georgian Minister of Culture and Monument Protection Guram Odisharia during his visit to France by the director of UNESCO World Heritage Centre Francesco Bandarini, Imedi TV Company reported on Wednesday.

Odisharia and his first deputy Marine Mizandari are currently on their visit to Paris.

Mizandari said the Bagrati cathedral will not be placed in the UNESCO list separately, it will have a different status and be mentioned together with the Gelati monastery. She noted that the Gelati monastery meets all the criteria of the list, which can not be said about the Bagrati cathedral.

"The director of UNESCO World Heritage Centre has named the cathedral's reconstruction as the reason for change of its status. UNESCO does not agree with the principles under which the monument was restored, and believes that they are contrary to the convention on cultural heritage, according to which the monuments are included or excluded from the UNESCO list, " Mizandari said.
