A number of amnestied political prisoners are demanding compensation for years illegally spent in prison, as well as punishment of those responsible for their internment and a full rehabilitation. They all are going to seek a retrial of their cases at the prosecutor’s office.

A number of amnestied political prisoners are demanding compensation for years illegally spent in prison, as well as punishment of those responsible for their internment and a full rehabilitation. They all are going to seek a retrial of their cases at the prosecutor's office.

National team football player Giorgi Demetradze, who was convicted in 2010 for connections with the criminal world, along with compensation, will demand the punishment of those who fabricated his case.

"I am hundred per cent sure that I will win the case," Demetradze said.

Vakhtang Maisaia convicted of spying for Russia and released as a political prisoner plans to file a lawsuit at the Hague Military Tribunal.

Maisaya told journalists that as he was accused of military espionage and this will be put right if his case is reviewed by an international military tribunal which is currently considering the cases of military actions in Georgia in 2008.The former military expert served his sentence from 2009.

Some 190 prisoners recognised by the Georgian parliament as political prisoners, left Georgian prisons on Sunday.

Military action was launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on Aug.8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August of that year.
