A meeting of the former Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov with chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of Georgian Parliament Tedo Japaridze took place within an international security conference held in Munich on Saturday

As Igor Ivanov told Georgian journalists after the meeting, he met with his old friend Japaridze in an informal atmosphere. "The most complex problems can be resolved if there is a will," Ivanov said.

Japaridze said the settlement process of Georgian-Russian relations will be long and complex. "We should make adequate steps towards each other," Japaridze said.

It should be noted that earlier Japaridze met with head of the Russian delegation to PACE and agreed to held an expanded meeting of the delegation in April.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia in Georgia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia late in August. Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow in response and has announced the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be occupied territories.
