Ex-speaker of Georgian parliament submits 80,000 signatures to CEC for candidacy

Representatives from the election headquarters of the presidential candidate and ex-speaker Nino Burjanadze have submitted signatures of the candidate's supporters to the CEC on Tuesday. Burjanadze's supporters collected around 80,000 signatures instead of necessary 26,350.

Burjanadze's representatives stated that if the Georgian authorities will ensure fair elections, the ex-speaker will not have any competitors.

To date, around 54 applications were officially submitted for participation in the election. However, only five candidates were registered so far - the representative of the ruling Georgian Dream coalition Giorgi Margvelashvily, Labour Party leader Shalva Natelashvili, popular candidate Nestan Kirtadze, the candidate Mikheil Saluashvili and leader of the For a Fair Georgia Party Sergo Javakhadze.

The presidential election in Georgia will be held on October 27.
