On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Panjikidze and Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili will discuss the situation along the border with the separatist Tskhinvali region with diplomats in Georgia.

The situation in the village of Ditsi is stable at the moment, however, measures should be taken by the international community in order to avoid further escalation in these conflict zones, Panjikidze told journalists before the meeting with diplomats.

According to Panjikidze, the suspension of installation of the barbed wire is not cause for optimism, "though Georgia hopes for a positive development of the situation".

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.

Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.

In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
