A discussion over the feasibility of building the Khudoni HPP will be held in Georgia on Tuesday. It will be attended by residents of Svaneti, representatives of non-governmental organisations, industry professionals and academics. Officials of the Ministries of Energy, Environment, Economics and Finance of Georgia are invited to the meeting.
According to event organisers, this project is not profitable for Georgia and harmful for the environment and population.
"According to the alternative project, it is possible through small and medium hydropower plants to obtain a larger amount of energy than the construction of huge dams whereby the environment and the interests of local population are sacrificed. In addition, the state should own at least 51 per cent of any HPPs," the debate organisers said.
