Georgia to receive financing under EU development program

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 15

Several Georgia’s municipalities will receive funding in the amount of 3.7 million Georgian lari ($1.1 million) under the EU program, Trend reports via press service of the Georgian Government.

This was announced at the Cabinet session chaired by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The meeting approved amendments to the Decree on Allocating Finances to Municipalities selected under the 2020-2022 Pilot Integrated Regional Development Program of the EU, according to which targeted urban renovation, tourism, and business development projects will be implemented in Lagodekhi, Telavi, Kutaisi, Kharagauli, Lanchkhuti, Tskaltubo, and Chiatura Municipalities.

The 2020-2022 Pilot Integrated Regional Development Program involves financing targeted measures in Georgia's 4 major regions: Kakheti, Imereti, Guria, and Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti.

The EU has already allocated up to 48 million Georgian lari ($15.2 million) to the municipalities of the regions under the current program.
