Georgia sees notable recovery in number of international visitors – Galt & Taggart

International arrivals in Georgia in December 2021 increased by 226.4 percent, compared to the same month of 2020, and totaled 160,763 people, Trend reports via tourism recovery review from the Galt & Taggart.

The number of international visitors to Georgia in December 2021 also accounted for 30 percent of the 2019 level, the report said.

Meanwhile, Turkey ranked first among the main countries of origin for arrivals in Georgia in December 2021 with 32,628 visitors, which is an increase of 65.6 percent, compared to 19,698 people over the same month of 2020. However, the same number decreased by 59.6 percent, compared to December 2019 (80,701).

According to the report, Georgia saw a notable recovery in arrivals from Israel and Ukraine.

The number of visitors from Israel in December 2021 increased 48 times, compared to the same period of 2020 (192), and decreased by 30.6 percent, compared to December 2019 (13,448), and totaled 9,331 visitors. At the same time, the number of visitors from Israel in the reporting period of 2021 accounted for 69 percent of the 2019 level.

The number of visitors from Ukraine in the reporting period of 2021 increased by 406 percent, compared to December 2020 (1,392), however, decreased by 32.2 percent, compared to the same month of 2019 (10,390), and amounted to 7,044 visitors. Meanwhile, the number of visitors from Ukraine in December 2021 accounted for 68 percent of the 2019 level.

Despite the fact that the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia (4,917), Uzbekistan (4,014), and the Philippines (4,830) were relatively low, these countries significantly exceeded the 2019 level and raised hopes for attracting more visitors in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period, Galt & Taggart noted.

Namely, the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia increased by 394.7 percent, compared to 2019, from Uzbekistan – by 216.6 percent, and from the Philippines – by 16.2 percent.
