Georgia’s domestic production of electricity in 2021 amounted to 12.6 billion kWh, which is an increase of 13.5 percent, compared to 11.1 billion kWh over 2020, Trend reports via Georgia's Electricity Market Operator (ESCO).
About 2.3 billion kWh of Georgia’s domestic electricity production accounted for thermal power plants, 10.1 billion kWh – for hydropower plants, and 83.4 million kWh – for Kartli Wind Power Plant.
Georgia’s total electricity imports in 2021 totaled 2.006 billion kWh, which is an increase of 19.3 percent, compared to 1.6 billion kWh in 2020. The main exporters were Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Georgia purchased 1.2 billion kWh from Russia, 600.1 million kWh – from Azerbaijan, and 161.2 million kWh – from Turkey, the report said.
Georgia’s exports of electricity in 2021 amounted to 391 million kWh, which is an increase of 155.5 percent, compared to 153.8 million kWh in 2020. The exports accounted for Turkey (220.5 million kWh), Armenia (145.8 million kWh), and Azerbaijan (24.6 million kWh).
Georgia’s total electricity transit over the reporting period of 2021 totaled 1.1 billion kWh – an increase of 908.5 percent, compared to 101.8 million kWh in 2020. Electricity transit from Azerbaijan to Turkey amounted to 720.6 million kWh, while the transit from Russia – to 321.8 million kWh.
Georgia’s transit of electricity from Russia to Armenia in the reporting period of 2021 amounted to 141.3 kWh.
