Georgia sees decrease in unemployment rate

The unemployment rate in Georgia in the fourth quarter of 2021 was at 19 percent, which is a decrease of 1.4 percentage points, compared to the same period of 2020 (20.4 percent), Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The same index also decreased by 0.5 percentage points, compared to the third quarter of 2021 (19.5 percent), the report said.

According to the report, the unemployment rate in urban areas accounted for 20.1 percent, and 17.4 percent - in rural areas. For men the unemployment rate was at 20.6 percent, and 16.8 percent - for women.

Meanwhile, the labor force rate in the reporting period of 2021 accounted for 51.2 percent of the working age population (15 years and older), which is 1.2 percentage points higher than over the fourth quarter of 2020, while the employment rate increased by 1.7 percentage points to 41.5 percent.

Labor force participation rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points in urban-type settlements, and increased by 3.1 percentage points in rural-type settlements. At the same time, the employment rate in urban-type settlements increased by 0.9 percentage points, and by 2.7 percentage points - in rural-type settlements.

The share of hired employees in the fourth quarter of 2021 was at 67.6 percent of the total number of employees, which is 0.4 percentage points higher, compared to the same period of 2020.

According to Geostat, labor force participation rates are higher for men, compared to women. The figure for men in the reporting period of 2021 was at 63.1 percent, while for women it was at 40.9 percent. The labor force participation rate points for men increased by 1.1 percentage points, and by 1.4 percentage points - for women, compared to the reporting period of 2020.

The employment rate for both men in the fourth quarter of 2021 increased by 1.9 percentage points, and for women - by 1.5 percentage points, compared to the same period of 2020, the report said.
