BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Latvia sees potential in increasing cooperation with Georgia, as an important partner in the Transcaucasian region, in transport and logistics sectors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia told Trend.
According to the source, cargo services between Latvian capital of Riga and Georgia's Tbilisi are provided by airBaltic carrier, and this route is in high demand from the logistics companies, especially for moving cargo in transit from the EU.
"Needless to say, mail and courier post is also using this direct route option between our countries and benefiting from this cooperation,” the ministry said.
Riga Airport has a strong passenger connection with Georgia served by airBaltic and Hungarian Wizz Air scheduled services.
“For the summer season this year, airBaltic will continue flights between Riga and Tbilisi with the frequency of two times per week, and launch a new scheduled service between Riga and Batumi with two flights per week, while Wizz Air will be continuing flights between Riga and Kutaisi twice a week,” the source said.
Riga Airport and local cargo community looks forward to expanding its cooperation with the Georgian logistics business not only for point-to-point service but also for transit services, the ministry concluded.
