TBILISI, Georgia, August 12. The volume of electricity consumed in Georgia decreased by 10.1 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.

According to a study conducted by the Galt&Taggart company, the level of electricity consumption has decreased to 6.6 billion kWh.

This is due to a reduction in the production of Georgian Manganese Holding, a company engaged in metallurgy and mining. This reduction is also related to a decrease in demand and a decrease in prices for their products. It is predicted that this will continue until the end of 2023.

In addition, there is an increase in electricity consumption in the retail market, which amounted to 55.9 percent of total consumption. This indicator increased by 1.7 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period of the previous year. Moreover, the growth of electricity consumption in Tbilisi equaled growth in other regions of Georgia.

The demand for electricity in Georgia is met as follows: 69.7 percent - through hydroelectric power plants (HPPs), 21.9 percent - through thermal power plants (TPP), 7.8 percent - through imports and 0.6 percent - through wind farms.
