Egyptian security authorities released on Monday 36 more Bedouin detainees in an effort to calm down Sinai Peninsula tribes at the country's eastern borders, Xinhua reported.
The 36 detainees were released in line with the directives by Egyptian Interior Minister Habib El-Adli, who has earlier promised chieftains to release detained tribesmen.
Relations between Bedouins and the Egyptian government have long been strained. The tension grew when police detained thousands of young men in the wake of a series of bombings at tourist resorts in south Sinai in 2005 and 2006.
In the recent weeks, Bedouins have been accusing Egyptian police of repeatedly raiding their villages and arresting people.
In late June, Bedouins attacked aid convoys heading to the eastern border Oujah Crossing. Media reports said gunmen bombed a pipeline which supplies Israel with Egyptian natural gas. The reports were, however, denied by the government.
Adli promised during a recent meeting with tribal leaders of Sinai to meet their demands of releasing their relatives. Prior to the latest release, dozens of detainees had already been freed.
