Newly-elected speaker of Egypt's new parliament Saad El-Katanai on Thursday suggested the formation of a committee, to be headed up by MP Mohamed El Sawy of the centrist Hadara Party, mandated with drawing up a statement - to be distributed in Cairo's Tahrir Square - commemorating the first anniversary of Egypt's January 25 Revolution, Ahram Online reported.
El-Katani suggested that five MPs from different political forces participate in drafting the statement, thousands of copies of which would be printed up before being distributed in the flashpoint square on Friday.
The parliamentary speaker suggested that El-Sawy head up the committee, along with MP Saad El-Husseini of the Freedom and Justice Party, MP Mohamed Abu Hamed of the Free Egyptians party, MP Magdy Sabry of the Social Democratic Party, MP Abu El-Ezz El-Hariri of the "Revolution Continues" coalition, MP Mohamed El-Said of the Karama Party, MP Halmi Muard of the Reform and Development Party and MP Ziad El-Alimy
The committee is expected to head to Tahrir Square on Friday where it will distribute the statement and meet with revolutionary activists to reassure them that Egypt's new parliament would not abandon the rights and entitlements of those injured and killed in last year's revolution.
