Gunmen attacked Al-Marj police station in Egypt's capital Cairo on Friday night, and freed 27 detainees, according to Egypt's official MENA news agency.
The police station also caught fire during the process, the report said, Xinhua reported.
The police are still resisting the unidentified persons in cooperation with residents nearby, while two soldiers there were injured in the crossfire with the gunmen, a security source was quoted by MENA as saying.
Extra forces will be sent to contain the situation, said the source.
