Qatar will pay its share of the Arab financial security net pledged to the Palestinian Authority, Emir Sheikh Hamad Ibn Khalifa al-Thani said Sunday Maan reported.
Sheikh al-Thani phoned President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday evening and confirmed Qatar was committed to supporting Palestinian people in their struggle for independence, the PA news agency Wafa reported.
Abbas told the Qatari emir he would receive a warm welcome when he visits the West Bank later in December.
Abbas' political adviser Nimir Hammad said Friday that Sheikh al-Thani would visit Palestine on Dec. 31. Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi is expected to visit the West Bank on Saturday, Hammad said.
Al-Arabi has communicated with Arab countries asking them to deliver funds pledged to the PA, Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki told Ma'an on Sunday.
Arab countries agreed in March to provide a financial safety net to the PA in the event of Israeli sanctions, which were imposed in November.
