An exchange of fire occurred over the Israeli-Syrian border on the Golan Heights overnight, the Israeli military said Tuesday, dpa reported.
Shots were fired from Syria at an Israeli patrol on the border, damaging a military vehicle, but causing no injuries, the military said in a statement.
In response, the Israeli force "returned precise fire at the source and reported a direct hit," it said.
Recent weeks have seen a rise in stray shells and bullets landing on the Israeli-controlled side of the Golan Heights, fired as part of the internal Syrian conflict.
The Israeli Defence Force has lodged a complaint with the UN over the firing, the military said.
