Israel soldiers shot dead a Palestinian and wounded eight others early Friday, when they opened fire along the border between Israel and the southern Gaza Strip, a Palestinian medical official said, dpa reported.
An Israeli military spokeswoman could not immediately confirm the incident - the first fatal violence since a ceasefire ending eight days of cross-border fighting took effect Wednesday.
Ashraf al-Qedra, a spokesman of the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in the salient, told reporters that the victim was a farmer, who, along with others, wanted to check on his farm which lies adjacent to the heavily-guarded Israel-Gaza border.
