Israel is currently threatened by 200,000 enemy missiles, Israeli military intelligence chief Aviv Kochavi said Thursday, dpa reported.

The missiles are capable of landing anywhere in Israel, and their ranges, and the size of their warheads, are growing, Major-General Kochavi said.

"Most of the missiles have a 40-kilometre range, but some have a range of hundreds of kilometres," he told a conference near Tel Aviv.

"They are operating from deep within enemy territory" and can reach heavily-populated areas in Israel from "Syria, Lebanon and Iran," he said.

The missiles are often concealed in urban areas, he said, claiming that "every tenth house in Lebanon serves as a missile storage facility or a rocket launching site."
