( dpa )- UN Secretary General Ban Ki -moon strongly condemned on Friday the attack this week on the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, which injured two Irish troops. Ban called for an investigation by Lebanese authorities and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to swiftly identify the attackers and bring them to justice. The attack on Tuesday took place near the town of Saida , where a contingent of peacekeepers is posted. The attacks on UNIFIL and the reported shelling of Israel also drew reaction from the UN Security Council, which late Thursday issued a statement condemning the attacks. The council said two rockets fired into northern Israel on Tuesday must be investigated and it strongly condemned the action for violating a UN ceasefire resolution southern Lebanon. "The Security Council reaffirmed its full support to the Lebanese government and the Lebanese armed forces in their full efforts to ensure security and stability throughout Lebanon," the council said.
