Tehran on Friday
welcomed formation of a new cabinet in Lebanon, the Iranian foreign ministry
said in a press statement.
"Iran welcomes formation of the national unity government in
Lebanon and hopes that it will lead to unity among Lebanese and stability
within Lebanon," the statement quoted Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki
as saying.
Lebanon formed a national unity
government Friday in which Hezbollah and its allies have a veto power on
decision-making, as agreed under a deal brokered in Qatar that ended a serious
political conflict in the country.
The new government is the first under newly-elected President Michel Suleiman,
and its prime goal is "to regain LebanOn's confidence in its political
institutions and pave the way for the 2009 parliamentary elections" Prime
Minister Fouad Seniora said, according to dpa.
