Germany praised Lebanon on Friday for the formation of a national unity government to end months of violent
political conflict in the country.
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said, "The formation of the new
government is another important step towards ending the political crisis after
the election of the president and the resumption of the parliament."
He said Berlin would continue to provide help to Lebanon, adding, "A
stable, sovereign Lebanon is a important element in stability and security in
the entire region." The government would face major challenges imposing
security and reforming Lebanon's electoral law.
Steinmeier praised Prime Minister Fouad Seniora for his successful conduct of
the negotiations with the political parties, dpa
