Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said Saturday that he will give instructions to the concerned parties to obtain more information on the missing Iranian diplomats, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The president's remarks came after meeting with Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Reza Shibani at the presidential palace, Xinhua reported.

Four Iranian diplomats were kidnapped by the Christian Lebanese Forces (LF) militia at a checkpoint in northern Lebanon in 1982 during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and they have been missing since then.

Suleiman was quoted as saying that the kidnapping took place during the war time, but he will consult with ministers who are related to the case in order to obtain more information.

The Iranian ambassador, however, held Israel responsible for the disappearance of the diplomats, the report said.

Hezbollah Chief Hasan Nasrallah said last month that the Lebanese government is responsible for following up the whereabouts of the missing Iranians.

He addressed the LF, saying "if you turned them over to Israel, say it, if you killed them, turn over their bodies."

Hezbollah received a report from Israel last summer saying that the four Iranians were killed by the LF, who were the main Lebanese allies to Israel during that time.
