First unofficial results of the crucial parliamentary elections in Lebanon on Sunday revealed that the opposition lost the elections while the ruling majority won again, LBC TV reported, according to Xinua.
Contrary to what was anticipated by several statistics, the slight victory was in favor of the pro-western ruling majority over the Syrian-Iranian backed Hezbollah-led opposition.
The Interior Ministry will officially announce the results on Monday while the incoming reports of the ballots from the election machines showed a victory for the ruling majority.
Polls closed at 7:00 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) with an estimated voter turnout of more than 50 percent, while electoral machines started to issue preliminary results at midnight.
The polls opened amid heavy security measures with more than 50, 000 army and police troops deployed throughout the country.
There were many complaints about delays in the election process, forcing voters to stand in lines for several hours. However, Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said he was satisfied with the measures adopted during the election process.
