Four Taliban insurgents were killed and three others were wounded as a mine they were planting exploded prematurely in Taliban birthplace Kandahar south of Afghanistan, a press release of Interior Ministry said Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

"Seven militants were busy in planting a mine on a road in Arghandab district Tuesday night but suddenly the device went off, killing four on the spot and wounding three others,"said the press release.

Taliban militants have not made comment.

Series of bomb blasts in Kandahar city week ago left more than 40 people, all of them civilians, dead and wounded over 60 others.

As major military instruments, the militants have resorted to roadside bombings and suicide attacks which have been proved deadly, particularly for non-combatants.
