NATO says a service member has died in southern Afghanistan following an attack by insurgents, AP reported.
The coalition did not provide details about the death Sunday or specify the nationality of the service member.
NATO is pouring in troops to southern Kandahar province as part of a stepped-up security operation planned for this summer.
Southern Afghanistan is the birthplace of the Taliban insurgency and has been the hub of some of the fiercest fighting in recent weeks between militants and coalition forces and troops of President Hamid Karzai's government.
