US President Barack Obama said Tuesday that his top commander in Afghanistan showed "poor judgement" in making critical comments against the administration that may force his resignation, dpa reported.
General Stanley McChrystal was immediately recalled to Washington after the release of a Rolling Stone magazine article that portrayed him and members of his staff as dismissive of top US officials including Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Obama said he wanted to talk to his commander directly on Wednesday "before I make any decisions" on McChrystal's future.
"It's clear that the article in which he and his team appear showed poor judgement," Obama said after a meeting with his cabinet at the White House.
