An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rattled the southern Mediterranean island of Crete on Monday, but no damage or injuries were reported, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said, DPA reported.
The earthquake took place at 9.49 am (0749 GMT). Its epicentre was located just south of the island, at a depth of about 49 kilometres.
The quake was felt throughout Crete with residents reportedly rushing out of their homes in shock.
