The Norwegian man charged in last week's attacks in Norway, which claimed at least 93 lives, was Monday remanded in custody for eight weeks by Oslo district court, reported dpa.

Anders Behring Breivik, 32, was charged with the bombing in Oslo's government district on Friday and a shooting at a youth camp on nearby Utoya island the same day.

Judge Kim Heger read out the decision after a closed-door session, saying the accused had "acknowledged the bomb explosion ... and the shooting at Utoya" in police interviews and to the court.

Breivik acknowledged the circumstances but has not pleaded guilty, the judge said.

Heger did not take questions.
