Breivik's lawyer says case shows he is insane

The lawyer of Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian man arrested for the twin attacks in Oslo and the nearby island of Utoya last week, said Tuesday he believes the events demonstrate clearly that his client is psychologically disturbed, dpa reported.

"The whole case indicates that he is psychologically unwell," lawyer Geir Lippestad said in Oslo, according to the NTB news agency.

Breivik believed he was "at war", Lippestad said, and that this fact made him feel justified in his actions.

Breivik, 32, is being held in custody in connection with the deaths of 76 people on Friday, eight of them in a bomb blast in Oslo and 56, mainly young people, on the island.
