Senior US official to visit Ankara for talks

US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns is due to visit Ankara tomorrow (Monday) for talks with Turkish officials, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.

Citing diplomatic sources, Anatolia said Burns will spend 30 hours in Turkey, having talks with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu, Today's Zaman reported.

Burns' visit to Ankara comes following Davutoglu's talks with top Iranian officials in Tehran last week, following which Davutoglu said talks between Iran and major world powers on Tehran's nuclear program will resume soon. In remarks published in a Japanese newspaper on Sunday, Davutoglu said both sides have agreed to resume talks soon in Turkey.

In addition to Iran, developments in Iraq and Syria are also expected to be discussed during Burns' visit to Turkey.
