Buildings in Mexico City shook for more than a minute after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck 108 miles east of Acapulco, Bloobmerg reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, though office workers evacuated buildings along the Reforma thoroughfare in the capital.
The earthquake in Guerrero state along the Pacific Coast was initially estimated to have a magnitude of 7.6 by the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center of the U.S. Geological Survey.
