Indian authorities withdrew a tsunami threat alert for its Andaman and Nicobar islands and coastal areas following the 8.7-magnitude earthquake off Indonesia Wednesday, dpa reported.
"The expected period of significant tsunami waves is now over for all threatened Indian coastal areas," India's Tsunami Early Warning Centre said in a statement.
"Data from the sea-level gauges confirmed that a tsunami was generated," the centre said, adding the maximum wave height recorded on Indonesian shores was merely 0.6 metres.
