At least four people were killed Wednesday in a suspected US drone attack in Pakistan's lawless tribal areas near the Afghan border, dpa reported quoted a security official.
The attack targeted a vehicle near Miran Shah, the main town in the North Waziristan region and a hotbed of al-Qaeda linked militants.
The security official said that two missiles were fired at a car carrying alleged militants. "Four people were killed as the result of the attack," said the official on condition of anonymity. "The identity of those killed is not known as yet."
An increase in US drone attacks in the region has killed several militants recently, including Abu Yahya al-Libbi, the senior al-Qaeda leader who was targeted last week. The United States has persisted with its drone strikes despite opposition from the Pakistani government, which argues they only increase militant violence.
