US President Barack Obama offered condolences Friday for the victims of a deadly shooting at a Colorado cinema and vowed the support of the American people, dpa reported.
"This morning we woke up to news of a tragedy that reminds us of all the ways we are united as one American family," Obama said at an event that was to have been a campaign rally in Florida.
Obama cancelled his campaign events for the day following the shooting. He said it may never be clear why the shooter went on a rampage, but noted it highlights the fragility of life.
"What matters at end of day is not the small things not the trivial things that so often consume us in our daily lives. Ultimately it's how we treat one another and how we love one another," he said, before leading a moment of silence for the victims.
