Over 30 people were feared dead and several others seriously injured when a bus they were traveling in crushed and caught fire in the central Ugandan district of Lwengo, a local radio station reported here on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

Over 30 people were feared dead and several others seriously injured when a bus they were traveling in crushed and caught fire in the central Ugandan district of Lwengo, a local radio station reported here on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

CBS radio reported that the seriously injured in the Tuesday morning accident have been rushed to Lyantonde Hospital.

Police in a brief statement to media said that the bus registration number UAM937B belonging to Horizon company was moving from the southwestern district of Kisoro to the capital Kampala.

It overturned and caught fired at Malongo, Kyazanga as the driver was trying to negotiate a corner.

The statement did not give the number of fatalities.

According to police statistics, over 2,300 people die in road accidents in Uganda annually.
