According to a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, February 2, Sochi will host the summit of the Group of Eight in 2014, RIA Novosti reported.
"In connection with the upcoming presidency of the Group of Eight in 2014 by the Russian Federation, Sochi has been chosen as the location for events within the meeting of the Heads of States and Governments of the Group of Eight in 2014," a document published on the Kremlin website said.
According to the decree, the head of state appointed head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Ivanov Chairman of the Organizing Committee on Russia's Presidency in the G8, relieving Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of these duties.
