Former president of Pakistan escapes arrest after court order

A Pakistani court ordered arrest of former president Pervez Musharraf on Thursday in connection with allegations of putting judges under house arrest, but he fled before he could be detained, dpa reported.

Musharraf was whisked away from Islamabad High Court by his personal security detail, who did not allow the local police waiting outside the courtroom to take him into custody, according to the Geo News television channel.

Musharraf's interim bail in the judges' case was due to expire later in the day, and the ex-army chief was appearing in court to seek an extension.
