Five killed in twin Afghan bombing in Helmand

At least five people including two police officers were killed when two bombs exploded Thursday in southern Afghanistan, an official said, dpa reported.

"The first bomb hit a car at 8 am (0330 GMT) in Nad Ali district, in which three civilians were killed," said Amar Zwak, governor spokesman for Helmand province.

The second bomb went off when police arrived at the scene to help the victims, Zwak said. Two policemen were killed and one injured in the blast.

He said the dead and injured officers were members of Afghan National Civil Order Police.

It was the first reported attack in Afghanistan during Ramadan. The Taliban had earlier vowed they would continue attacks on Afghan and foreign troops during Ramadan.
