EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn's Spokesperson, Krisztina Nagy, said Thursday that it is high time for Turkey to update its constitution in a way that will reflect the whole country and society.

Speaking to AA, Nagy said that Turkey must implement a comprehensive and stable political reform program, reported Worldbulletin.

"At the same time, the implementation of the judicial reform and development of rights of unions must take place in Turkey," Nagy said.

Pointing out that Turkey's accession road to the EU is a long and difficult one, Nagy stressed that the reform process is just as important as joining the EU itself.

"The EU has a clear stance on Turkish membership. Turkey may become a member of the EU if it meets the necessary conditions and fulfills its duties," Nagy said.

Reminding that eight chapters have so far been opened in negotiations with Turkey, Nagy said that new chapters would be opened for negotiations in December.

"The developments in Turkey are being evaluated by the EU Commission in annual observation reports. We will make public our latest report on November 5th," Nagy also said.
