Son of the Turkish President Turgut Ozal, who died in 1993 under mysterious circumstances, Ahmet and his widow Semra Ozal are accused of involvement in the death of Turgut Ozal, channel Haber7 said Sept.12.
Ahmet Ozal and Semra Ozal are also accused of organizing economic crimes, the channel reports by citing sources in the prosecutor's office in Ankara.
It is reported that Ahmet Ozal and Semra Ozal testified in court 19 times.
The main Ankara prosecutor's office launched an investigation on the involvement of the widow of Turgut Ozal, Semra Ozal, in the death of her husband Sept.13 last year.
Earlier, prosecution witness Levent Ersez accused Semra Ozal of involvement in the poisoning of her husband.
Ersez has already been sentenced to 22 years and 6 months' imprisonment on a criminal case of Ergenekon organization accused of a coup attempt.
Investigation of the causes of death of the Turkish President, who died in 1993 under mysterious circumstances, has been renewed in connection with the rumors that he was poisoned. The official version of his death is still considered to be heart failure. However, the spouse of the late president alleged that her husband was poisoned. Companions of Ozal rejected this version.
The prosecutor's office in Turkey in mid-September 2012 has taken the steps necessary for the exhumation of the body of Ozal, despite the fact that his family was against it.
The report on the study of tissue samples taken for analysis indicated that poison was discovered in them.
The report also indicates that in spite of the discovery of the poison in the remains of the former president, the death didn't occur due to the effects of the poison. The exact cause of death of Ozal was not indicated in the report.
