The Russian armed forces in Syria are not a threat for Turkey, Togrul Turkesh, the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, said, Anadolu agency reported Jan. 22.

"Turkey is a NATO member," he said. "This means that the Turkish borders are also NATO borders."

Earlier, some Turkish media reported that Russia sent 100 servicemen to the Syrian settlement of Qamishli on the border with Turkey.

It has been also reported that at present, Qamishli settlement is being controlled by Syria's Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has reiterated that for Turkey there is no difference between PYD and the militants of the IS terrorist organization (ISIL or ISIS).
