As a result of a special operation, Istanbul police detained one of the main activists of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group, the Turkish Sabah newspaper reported Sept. 29.
The detainee was responsible for manufacturing of improvised explosive devices, according to the report.
The report also said that explosive materials were found in the detainee’s flat during the search.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
